Frankie’s Puppets & Mascots

Feature 1

Frankie Malachi is the founding member of Mascots & Puppets, a bespoke crafter of, you guessed it, Mascots & puppets in Singapore! At his studio, he and a team of crafters work to bring various Mascots & puppets of different forms to life.

Frankie’s journey started working on designing clothes at the start, as a missionary in a church, they designed various outfits needed for their church’s theatrical productions. Eventually, they moved towards making Marionettes and Puppets, showcasing their puppetry mastery at various venues, from children’s show to theater productions.

When they first started out, there were very little resources available for him to research on, and had to resort through laborious trial and error to achieve the results he was after.

I first got to know Frankie through a facebook group, Art Don’t Throw. Subsequently, as I got to know him better, it also sparked my interest in his work, so I asked if he would like to do a shoot together about his Marionette works.

His studio was a wonderful museum display of all things Puppet & Mascots related. For a place like Singapore, finding such crafters who are artisans in their own are extremely difficult to find, and I hope the photos could allow you to appreciate some of his fine works, as I did when I visited his studio!
