Last days of Sungei Road

Sungei Road was the last place for hawkers to sell items, regardless of what they have, without any rent. This was unique, especially with the backdrop of modern Singapore. Hawkers have no established location, and they set up shop early in the morning, and leave in the evening. It was first come first serve, you have the right to your hawking location if you ‘chopped’ early.

When it was announced it was going to close, I, like many others, decided to head down to capture some images as a way of remembering the past of Singapore, something unique that our future generations could hopefully learn from.
